Preparing the Church for Persecution

Site Vision & Purpose:

The primary purpose of SupernaturalTruth.com is to train and equip the Church of America for radical Christian living. This is done through teaching, prophetic insight, encouragement, and active demonstration.

It is a Biblically prophetic certainty that one day all Christians will be persecuted. I don't kow when it will happen—four years from now, four days from now, or four centuries from now—but when it does happen, I know that "Church as we know it" will not survive. The American Church at large is simply not ready for the changes that will need to take place.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist by any means; I just believe the Bible. I know that Jesus will return for His Church when we least expect it (1 Thessalonians 5:1-3). I know that a time is coming when Christians will be martyred for refusing to bow to the systems of this world (Revelation 13:15-17 & 20:4). I know that Jesus said supernatural demonstrations of God's power are normal among those Christians who believe (Mark 16:15-18). And I know that belief in God is not enough—as James 2:19 says, "You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder."

Real faith involves participation in the Person, actions, and nature of Jesus Christ. Real faith involves a living, breathing relationship with Almighty God.

Real faith will indeed survive persecution. Consider the first-century Christians: when persecution broke out against them, it only served to spread the message of Christ further (Acts 8:1-8). But so many American Christians are like the ones who Jesus said receive the message "at once with great joy." Their spiritual roots are shallow, and Jesus said that when persecution comes, they will quickly fall away (Matthew 13:20-21). Again, unless something radically changes in the way we live out our Christianity, very few will come out on the other side of persecution with their salvation intact.

My passion is to see American Christians (and others from around the world) step into a dynamic relationship with God that will unshakably withstand the threat of persecution. I believe that through passionate prayer, we can cry out for God's grace and see the onset of persecution withheld for a time; but a time will come when God will say, "This far, and no further." I hope and pray the Church is ready.

At SupernaturalTruth.com, you will find resources that encourage you, train you, provide examples for you, spur you on toward love and good works, and ultimately draw you closer to the person of Jesus Christ. This site is not bound to any denomination or organization—such things will not last through the fire of persecution that is coming anyhow. The Church (Christ's Body) will survive, but churches (mere organizations) will not. Are you ready for that day when it comes?

In closing, consider these words of the apostle Paul:

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope when you were called—one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:1-6, NIV)

You are called to live a life worthy of Christ, and I want to do whatever I can to help you in that quest.

God bless,

Site History:

Some time ago, I took note of a modern plague that has infected America and started to spread throughout the world. That plague is the culture of "self." So many of us live only for ourselves with little to no regard for our families, friends, and fellowman. Unfortunately, this culture of self has infiltrated even the Church.

Although these things aren't evil in themselves, we tend to waste our time striving for happiness, contentment, prosperity, and blessing at the expense of sacrifice and the cross of Christ. It seems at times that the only thing we've sacrificed is sacrifice itself!

This is particularly true when it comes to matters of the supernatural. Many seem to want power for power's sake. In a sense, you could say that many Christians basically want to know how to effectively manipulate God rather than befriend Him and simply obey Him. We rightly desire miracles, healings, signs, and wonders (Paul said to earnestly desire spiritual gifts); but in the process, many of us lose sight of the cross altogether.

The Original Design of SupernaturalTruth.com

So in early December of 2007, I took what passion I had for Jesus and put it into the development of a web site that would fly in the face of the culture of self. SupernaturalTruth.com was born.

For four months, I pretty much wrote to no one. My readership grew slowly. It's not easy to attract hoards of people to a web site that confronts their culture and challenges their beliefs! But in the spring of 2008, certain events in the Charismatic movement suddenly thrust these issues into the international spotlight. People started coming to this site for answers to their questions, and the readership exploded from 25 to over 1,000 in a matter of about a month.

I rode that wave for about another 6 months, and that's when the Lord prompted me to focus all my attention on local ministry. I had just been hired as a youth pastor, and the Holy Spirit clearly directed me to make a choice: either build a national and international reputation with a web site or serve a handful of students by investing time in them.

Knowing it was right, I chose the latter. For the next year, I barely wrote in the blog and really didn't even touch the rest of the web site. I started another blog for a while that was based on creativity and spiritual warfare, but that was only because I sensed the Lord prompting me. For about a year, things on the web site stayed relatively quiet as I put all my passion and energy into the student ministries department at my church.

Then, one full year after laying my web site on the altar, the Holy Spirit prompted me to pick it back up again. I felt like Abraham getting his son, Isaac, back from the altar of sacrifice. This time, though, there would be sharper focus and clearer purpose. The web site would still take second chair to my role in ministering at my church, but now I could return to regularly sharing thoughts and teachings online.

For a whole month, I prayed about the decision, asked God what He wanted in the new site, and started brainstorming with my wife, Robin. It quickly became clear that the confines of the old web site wouldn't be sufficient to meet the demands of the vision God was giving, so I spent the next two months designing, programming, and developing the site you see before you today.

The primary focus is still the cross of Christ, but now the underlying motivation is to prepare the Church for persecution. Our mediocre Christian culture in America is born out of the overall culture of self. We want Jesus on our terms. We want Him to make us happy, healthy, and prosperous; but we want nothing to do with suffering, poverty, or persecution. Many American Christians will have a harsh wake-up call when persecution does come to the western world.

With this clear vision as my motivation for developing this site, several changes had to be made. While the old web site had five different blogs (which often confused people due to the widely diverse topics), this site will focus on only one: the Supernatural Truth Blog.

The podcasts are now available on iTunes and can be listened to directly from the web site. In fact, you'll find a whole new podcast program than the old site ever had. The Free Music page is also set up for online listening.

Another great feature is the free "Spiritual Gifts Test," where you can get a better handle on what spiritual gifts you're already practicing, which ones you might have without realizing it, and what ones you should "eagerly desire." Spiritual Gifts were a regular part of the first-century Church and dramatically revealed the love and power of God in the midst of great persecution. Part of preparing Christians for persecution is helping them to understand their supernatural role in the body of Christ.

Lastly, I was reluctant about putting a store on this site because I believe firmly that the Gospel needs to be free. So I have been very purposeful about keeping the Gospel and prophetic words available free of charge. The store is only for deeper teachings that aren't necessary for your spiritual health but might be of interest. Everything else on this site is free with no strings attached.

SupernaturalTruth.com is my way of ministering to you. This is your site! So I want to encourage you to e-mail questions regularly and comment freely on the blog posts.

If there's anything else you would like to see on this site, just let me know. I can't guarantee that I'll take the idea, but if it's reasonable and beneficial, I would be happy to make an addition.

Thank you so much for your valued readership and support!
